For details of Neighbourhood Watch, Google: Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Watch.
In essence a group of people in a street look after each other by looking out for suspicious persons causing or likely to cause crime such as: theft, anti-social behaviour, dangerous parking, vandalism etc. Each group has a co-ordinator who represents them at meetings with the local police. Each street covered by the NHW scheme has a sign stating it is a NHW area, to warn would-be criminals.
Chatteris NHW meets bi-monthly ( starting February each year) at 7-8.30 pm, at The King Edward Centre. Chatteris

At Sova Cambridgeshire Probation Mentoring Project we support and encourage people on probation to steer clear of crime.
With the help of our team of local volunteers we are able to give each offender someone who is on their side; a trained mentor ready to offer the practical advice and emotional support needed to deal with everyday life in the community.
For example mentors might support people as they look for somewhere to live, help them to find and keep a job or get new skills and qualifications. They make sure offenders get any specialist support they need to tackle addictions and to re-build difficult relationships with family and friends. Low self-esteem and a lack of confidence can also be a problem, so mentors also motivate and encourage offenders to make good choices and change the behaviour that has got them into trouble in the past.
